WHEN DID YOU BEGIN SERVING AT TRINITY?
I started serving on the worship team in 2014, and have been the Worship Minister since 2015.

WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN TO SERVE AT TRINITY? WHAT LED YOU HERE?
I have been involved in worship ministry at a few different churches. While I was involved in worship ministry at another church, I started attending Trinity’s young adults group on Fridays, where I met (now my wife) Anna Culbertson. I started coming to Sunday services at Trinity on my weeks off from leading worship at another church. After a short time, I decided to make Trinity my “home” church body. I played on the worship team for a while, and was asked to consider becoming the Worship Minister. I joyfully accepted the position.

HOW DO YOU SEE TRINITY SERVING OUR CITY?
Our Men’s Ministry reaches out to the community through Ultimate Frisbee during the Summer months. Our Children’s Ministry opens our doors to youth once a week for fun activities and lessons at TreeHouse. Our Sunshine School and Sprout programs open our doors to families who need child-care throughout the week. We have the Community Garden that gives people in the neighborhood a nice plot of land to grow what they’d like, all while interacting and building relationships with everyone else involved. Our Small Groups are serving the community in various capacities. The truth is; however, that we as a church body can and should be doing a lot more than we do. The fact that we live in as congested and growing an area as we do puts a lot of responsibility on our shoulders. Responsibility that we aren’t (yet) living up to.

WHAT HAS GOD BEEN GIVING YOU A PASSION AND BURDEN FOR?
The western Church handles very poorly the charge given to us by Jesus at the end of Matthew “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” We don’t care enough to do much of this at all. I suppose you could say that my burden is for our (my) lack of passion for the things about which God has passion. We don’t live like Jesus is with us; we don’t live like Jesus is in us; we don’t live like Jesus.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE VERSE?
I’m still fired up over what I was just talking about. I’ll say Matthew 28:19-20.

WHAT ABOUT YOU PERSONALLY WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE?
I was born and raised near Portland, with a brief 2-year stint in Sarasota, Florida where my Dad pastors a church. I’m married to Anna Shenk, with whom I get the pleasure of worshiping every week. I enjoy woodworking and writing music.
