WHEN DID YOU BEGIN SERVING AT TRINITY?
My family began attending Community Bible Fellowship, which merged with Trinity Baptist to become Trinity Fellowship Church, when I was 9. I have been involved in one degree or another ever since then. In December of 2016 I quit a job which prevented me from serving at the church in the capacity that I wanted. Since then I have been serving on worship and sound teams, as well as other volunteer opportunities that come up.
WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN TO SERVE AT TRINITY? WHAT LED YOU HERE?
Trinity Fellowship Church is the church that we have committed to belong to and serve as part of the Body. My wife and my family both have roots in this church. We believe in and support the mission and message of this church as it seeks to be a light in the city of Portland and speak truth from scripture to whomever attends.
HOW DO YOU SEE TRINITY SERVING OUR CITY?
I believe that Trinity Fellowship Church approaches the Word with great honesty and courage as we seek to speak truth that most of our culture does not want to hear or accept. I believe that the message that Trinity preaches can help to transform hurting and broken people in our city. In turn, these hurting and broken people can help minister to others in our city with the same message and compassion that is illustrated in the Gospel. The missionaries that we have sent and support are also doing great work around the world that I believe is important.
WHAT HAS GOD BEEN GIVING YOU A PASSION AND BURDEN FOR?
God has given me a passion for a number of things. First is for men – I want to help transform the way men view themselves. I believe many men see themselves through a lens that was crafted by our culture and which is generally unhealthy. I think that the Bible has a lot to say about what it really means to be a man. I am also passionate about worship. I enjoy worshiping God through music, but I also recognize that music is a small part of what worship is. I want to help people worship God with all of their lives because of everything that He has done for them.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE VERSE?
My favorite verse is Philippians 2:1-11
“Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
