WHEN DID YOU BEGIN SERVING AT TRINITY?
I began speaking on Sunday mornings once a month and also began helping with sound and PowerPoint for worship in the Fall of 2015. I became a full-time member of the ministerial staff in February 2015.
WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN TO SERVE AT TRINITY? WHAT LED YOU HERE?
A major family health crisis with my grandson brought my wife Beccy and I back to the States after serving on mainland Portugal and the Azores Islands as missionaries for nearly twenty years. We located in Portland so that we could be close to family and special medical services located here. My son is the Staff Minister at Trinity so it was natural for us to attend here.
HOW DO YOU SEE TRINITY SERVING OUR CITY?
Our goal is to follow Jesus wholeheartedly as described in the Bible. If and when we do that our lives as individuals should be salt and light in whatever areas of life our particular situations and circumstances have placed us. Then when we gather as a community of followers of Jesus our gifts and talents can come together as the body of Christ to represent Him in our world.
WHAT HAS GOD BEEN GIVING YOU A PASSION AND BURDEN FOR?
I have a passion to know God more intimately and deeply and to continue to develop into the person He has created me to be – “to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13) “trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:10). My burden is to help others to grow in their relationship with God in Christ Jesus and to have the opportunity to share Him with others that do not know and follow Him.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE VERSE?
One of my favorites is a prayer that is also a challenge for the direction of my life. “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:14-21). As you can see, I really do like Ephesians.
WHAT ABOUT YOU PERSONALLY WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE?
I married my girlfriend, Beccy, in September 1973 – she is the love of my life. I have 3 kids, 12 grandkids, and two greats – at least as I write this in February 2016. I love my family and being able to spend time with them. I also like reading, lots of styles of music, hiking and traveling to see interesting historical places. I lived in mainland Portugal and the Azores Islands for a quarter of my life and love them both. I love being a son of the God of the Universe and am committed to do what I can to make it possible so others have the same opportunity.
